Peggy Hollen

Since moving to the Uintah Basin 30 years ago, I have worked for Utah State University Uintah Basin for 15 of those years.  I attended college in Southern California in auditoriums filled with 300 or more students, something I wasn't prepared for.

When I started attending Utah State University Uintah Basin, the classes were small, making it possible for me to get to know other students as well as the instructors, which enhanced my educational experience. I received two bachelor degrees from Utah State University Uintah Basin in 1997.  During that time, we did not have a lot of advisors in the Uintah Basin, so much of my experience maneuvering through the requirements was self-taught and I made a few errors. That's why I love advising students today. My advising motto is -- Your path, my suggestions, with a dash of fun along the way.

Amazingly, not one of my degrees is in Agriculture, my true love.  I am a farmer at heart. I raise Shetland and Navajo Churro sheep and Angora goats for fiber to spin, and make yarn, for weaving, knitting, crochet, and all sorts of fiber endeavors.

By making an appointment, you can meet with me for academic advising for General Education questions and for Elementary Education questions.

I graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Elementary Education (ELED) in December of 2009. I am proud to be an Aggie!

I started my education, here in the Uintah Basin, upon graduation from Uintah High School. I can't explain the admiration I have for the faculty at the Uintah Basin campus; they ignited within me a passion for learning. (I even threw myself into an upper-division biology course to explore the Boundary Waters of Minnesota because of the enthusiasm of the instructor of my freshman biology course). The passion for biology launched me to pursue another passion-teaching! I used my experiences with biology to choose my emphasis for the ELED program.

I love being an academic advisor. I got to know many of our faculty as I was going to school and have personally engaged in many of the same courses that I advise my students to take. I enjoy the academic/research environment of the university and learn new things every day. I love seeing students succeed and excel. I like to find ways to help them accomplish their goals and can't wait until you are that student that may need a little push to get started. I always have an open door.

A native of Salt Lake City, I moved to the Uintah Basin in March of 2013. While new to the Basin, I am not new to the university. I am proud to call myself an Aggie and alumnus of our Logan campus. In 2010, I completed my associate’s degree from Utah State University before transferring to Southern Utah University to get my bachelor’s degree in communication.

My favorite thing about USU-Uintah Basin is the faculty and staff’s genuine desire for their students to succeed. Through an open-door policy and a hands-on learning approach, students are able to graduate not only with a degree, but also a résumé – something that not many schools can offer.

I am a sincere advocate of higher education and believe that USU is a place where you truly can discover yourself.  My goal for students is to realize that college can be for everyone and USU has the resources to help.

There’s no better feeling than setting a goal and proving to yourself that you can accomplish it. As an advisor, I’m looking forward to helping all of you get there.

Go Aggies!
